Short Term Training

CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative Programme on Characterization and Non-Destructive Evaluation of Materials

December 9 – 13, 2019

CSIR – Central Mechanical Engineering
Research Institute (CMERI),
M. G. Avenue, Durgapur 713209

About the Programme
The training programme will be focused on characterization of materials with nondestructive evaluation of materials and components for damage assessment and failure analysis by using internationally accepted standards. Skill on the above said areas  will lead to impart engagement of young engineers/working professions in various industries.

Highlights of the Programme:
Module I: 2 days (December 9- 10, 2019)
1. Mechanical Characterization: Hardness, Fracture Toughness, Tensile, Compression, Flexural, Fatigue.
2. Non- Destructive Evaluation: Fundamentals, Visual inspection, In-situ Metallography and hardness, Liquid penetrant inspection, Ultrasonic test, Radiography, Introduction to Phased Array, Ultrasonics, Video-Imagescopy.
3. Failure Analysis: Methodology of Failure Analysis, Engineering Failures (Case studies)

Module II: 3 days (December 11- 13, 2019)
1. Materials Characterization: Differential thermal analysis (DTA)/ Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), UVVIS-NIR, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR),Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Electro- chemical analysis.
2. Tribological Characterization: Wear and Friction: High temp, Normal temp & Vacuum condition
