Hiroshima University International Linkage Degree Programme / Sakura Student Exchange Programme

Collaboration Type:  Researcher/Student Exchange Programme
Objective and Short Description of the project:

Visit to Hiroshima University Japan under Sakura Science Program 2018- This exchange visit was pertaining to ILDP program at Hiroshima University under Sakura Science Program 2018 which aimed at exchange of students between Indian and Japanese Universities. The target of this program was to conduct research work related to the assigned laboratory, to take industrial/ technical tours and visits to cultural sights in order to gain and insight of Japanese culture.

During the tenure of this program from 20th June 2018 to 10thJuly 2018, research activities related to application of high speed vision system for process monitoring in micromachining was conducted at Department of System Cybernetics, Graduate School of Engineering at Hiroshima University. The Department of System Cybernetics at Hiroshima University focuses on research and applications related to high speed vision or high frame rate (HFR) imaging. The basic idea behind HFR is to capture a large number of frames of an ongoing subject so that intricate details could be observed without frame interpolation which is otherwise not possible in case of conventional imaging procedures.

Research on applications of high frame rate system for condition monitoring of computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools so that existing problems in CNC machine tools like vibration induced inaccuracy, tool wear and poor surface integrity could be detected was conducted. The proof of the concept for use of high speed vision system which could be used for tool condition monitoring of micro machines was established. The scope of further research collaboration is attached in Fig 1.
