Industrial Service and Research Group of CSIR-CMERI is actively engaged in providing various engineering solutions to Industries (mainly Power plant industries) for the last 30 years. The domain of work of this group can be classified under mainly four categories:

• Residual Life Assessment of critical components of Boilers: CSIR-CMERI is accredited as one of the “Well Known Remanent Life Assessment Organization” by Central Boiler Board, Ministry of Commerce & Industries, Govt. of India. This group has undertaken numerous RLA work in the past for major power generating units across the country.
• Health Assurance of Boiler and Turbine components:  This group is also actively inspecting and certifying present state of health of various turbine components along with boiler components. The extent of damage is ascertained using various NDT and metallurgical techniques.
• Failure Analysis of Boiler Tubes and critical engineering components: A major chunk of time is dedicated to conduct various failure investigative studies. The purpose of these studies is to predict the possible cause/causes of failure and thereby propose remedial measures to avoid such failures in near future.

Quality assurance activities: Considerable amount of work is also being done to check the quality of various in-house castings, metallurgical and mechanical analysis of used products. NDT inspection of on-job engineering components etc.

Industrial Service and Research Group has been associated with numerous power and process plant industries across the country, notable among them are DVC, SAIL, CESC, HINDALCO, WBPDCL, Coal India, ECL, PSEB, NTPC, Haldia Petrochemicals etc.
