Ion-Polymeric Metal Composites (IPMC) Biomimetic Actuators
   
 
IPMC based actuator at laboratory scale has been developed. Using biological cells to power the IPMC is the basis of its biological control in operation as an artificial muscle. This novel technique has the potential to assist cardiac, intestinal, paralysis and ocular patients, among others.

 

Electrical activation of the synthetic biocompatible polymeric materials (artificial muscle) by means of biological cells or nerves could be of great significance for people suffering from various muscular diseases. These are highly efficient and may have far reaching application consequences in biomedical engineering and medicine.
