For the second year in running, CMERI bagged the prestigious SAIL Award for the paper entitled Strategies to make Indian Steel Industry Globally Competitive. The paper, authored by Dr. G.P. Sinha, Director, CMERI, Sri D.K. Bagchi and Sri U.C. Mukherjee portrays the opportunities Indian steel producers have in terms of producing globally competitive finished steel products through optimised operations and optimised blend of input. The study further works out the methodology for deriving the optimum productivity levels based on the fundamental principles and indicates the areas where strategies at the plant level and at the national level need to be evolved.

Vasoya, President, Institution of Engineers (India) The Sail Gold Medal was handed over recently to the winning team from CMERI at the Prize Distribution Ceremony held during the Nineteenth Indian Engineering Congress held at Mumbai. It may be mentioned that last year also the CMERI team comprising Dr. Gopal P. Sinha, Sri D.K. Bagchi and Sri U.C. Mukherjee won the SAIL Award for their contribution on coal Management and cost Reduction in steel plants.
